FAQs
Some of our most frequently asked questions ...
What can Iziseko concrete-free foundations be used for?
Almost anything. Our systems have been used for modular housing, prefabricated buildings, light steel frame (LSF), steel frame and timber frame construction, pods, bridges, solar parks, wind turbines, telecom masts and general civil works.
Do you install the foundations?
Yes. Our installation team can provide a turnkey service almost anywhere in the world. Depending on the project’s location and requirements, we may recommend that you provide local labour instead. Your team can either be trained to manage the installation themselves, or work under the guidance of one of our experienced installation managers. We always advise on the most cost-effective approach for each project.
Can your system be used in all types of soil?
Our system can be installed in most types of penetrable soil with sufficient bearing capacity. A soil investigation report (geotechnical or DCP penetration test) is usually needed, and most councils require one. The soil’s capacity determines which pile cap and pile length are required. It also determines the corrosion protection needed for your site.
What is the maximum load capacity of your foundations?
As with any foundation, load capacity depends on several factors, but mainly on the soil. We calculate capacity from the soil’s characteristics, pile friction and pile point bearing, and check it against the applied load.
In typical soils, our custom pile caps and pile groupings can carry more than 500 kN on a single load point. Maximum loads depend on the safety factors and settlement limits required by international design codes. Higher loads are possible where the application is less demanding and greater settlement can be tolerated.
Our solutions are fully engineered, based on a proper soil investigation. They are not specified from ad-hoc pull-out tests, as is common with ground screws and similar systems. Your foundation supports your entire investment, so it shouldn’t be compromised. Start with a solid foundation designed by professional engineers.
Where can the foundations be used?
Our foundations can be used anywhere you would currently use concrete or screw piles, provided the soil and loads fall within the system’s design range, which is very wide. Whether your loads are mainly gravity, uplift or high bending moment, we can tailor a solution to your project.
How are the systems installed?
Our systems are installed with portable, low-cost tools adapted for the job, mainly standard commercial jackhammers. Occasionally we use hand-held pneumatic or hydraulic equipment for pile driving, but this is also lightweight. That means we can install in the most remote and hard-to-reach locations.
Can the foundations be installed on uneven or sloping ground?
Yes, Iziseko foundations are easily installed on uneven sites. Even on very steep slopes, we can design custom pile caps to suit your build. The aim on these sites is not only to install the footings but to give you a level base to build on. We can also provide a complete post-and-platform design for timber frame, steel frame, SIPs and other building systems.
Do your foundations comply with building codes?
Yes. Iziseko foundations are based on the same principles and methods used in large civil engineering projects for almost a century. Our foundations are a modular, miniature version of these systems, and the calculation principles are the same. We apply recognised international codes, and every foundation is signed off by an engineer.
